HUDDERSFIELD GRAB RARE WIN

Basement side Huddersfield grabbed a late goal to condemn Wolves to their 10th defeat of the season. both sides came into the game with different agenda as Wolves were looking to consolidate 7th position in a bid to take the last European spot.

Huddersfield had gone two and the half months without a victory and looked bound for the Championship next season.  New Manager Jan Siewert had tasted defeat in all previous matches in charge against Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle.

Siewert made 8 changes to the team that lost at Newcastle bringing in goal scorer Mounie into the first eleven and the players responded to his changes. Wolves coach Nuno Espirito Santo used a full-strength squad including Portuguese prodigy Ruben Neves.

The match itself was cagey as Huddersfield started on the front footutilising a high press to prevent their visitors from settling into their rhythm. There were few chances in the first half as both clubs failed to test the goalkeeper.

The second half saw a different Huddersfield side as they created more chances and took the game to their opponents but their familiar failings in front of goal threatened to cost them. However, in the first minute of extra time, Steve Mounie bundled in a rebound in the six-yard box after a shot from strike partner Karlan Grant to secure a priceless victory.

The club held on to win which resonated within the fans as the players celebrated the victory with hugs and Siewert was mobbed by his backroom staff.  The fans also joined in the celebration after the game as the players joined arms and celebrated along with them.

Despite the victory against Wolves Huddersfieldstill, sit 11 points from safety with 10 games to go and their prospects of surviving the drop looks bleak.  But on Tuesday night the players and fans forgot all that to savour the victory.
